The "next features"-poll is closed, thank you for participating! As you can see, there is no clear winner: Both "look left / right" and "2D grid overview" received exactly the same number of votes (4), while the other two candidates, "save settings" and "configure acceleration", have been defeated. In my previous post about the poll, I voiced my doubts about the "2D grid overview" feature, so I am going to take the liberty to start with "look left / right". To be honest, in the meantime I already implemented one of the "loser" features, namely "save settings", since it turned out to be quite a quick-win.
While we're at it, I'd like to congratulate Brian (USA) for being the first and (so far) only visitor to actually leave a comment in the Jangaron blog! Why are you other 124 people (at least that's what Googalytics tells me...) so quiet? Brian, in return for your commitment and commendation, I am going to implement your feature request, too, and introduce configuration of teams and start positions in the next Jangaron version!
But please be patient, I have to steal some more time until it's ready to show. Maybe I'll offer a "beta" (wow, isn't that Web-2.0-ish?) before the next stable version, since I have some more surprises up my sleeve...

Heh, I came over from your thread on forums.armagetronad.net, and I already voiced my feedback there.
ReplyDeleteBut just to be sure: Great game you're working on, I've been checking out every new version!
Hi wrtlprnft,
ReplyDeletethanks for your loyalty! When I read your comment, I felt I didn't yet give enough credit to the forums where I received so much valuable feedback. You may already have noticed that as a consequence, I added links to both the Armagetron Forums and Tron Sector's I/O Tower Forums at a prominent position...
I found you through Armagetron also. Your program is super fun. I like playing from the first person view; something you can't practically do in Arma because everyone is so good in third person.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out!
Hey Joo,
ReplyDeleteThe game's looking great! When do you expect the next build of the game to be out?
Oh, and can I put a description of the game on the tron wiki? (tron.wikia.com)
Thanks,
Death-program
O Death,
ReplyDeletenext build 0.5 is almost done. Since it includes some new features that (as any software) may include bugs, I'm going to start a beta soon and keep the old version which seems to run quite stable. Watch out for the upcoming announcement in this blog!
And sure, I'd be pleased if you go ahead and add Jangaron to the Tron Wiki! Just be sure to use the URL of this blog, or, if you want to link the game directly, please use http://www.jangaron.net (not the old URL which is my arcor home page). Actually, the new domain is just a proxy to my arcor home page, but I'll keep the new URL stable and most likely move the game to a new server any time soon.
I agree about not wanting to put a 2D overview on the screen. Once you get the hang of the game, you don't really need one anyway. It's a very addictive game, and I like it because I can play it for a few minutes at work (when the boss isn't looking) without having to install any programs on the office PC. The more I play it, the more I like it. Good job, Joo!
